Thursday 29th September - The Poppy Challenge
The final competitive game and what a way to end the season. A sunny evening, 6 full rinks plus reserves and over 20 watching and supporting both sides. When the British Legion teams arrived, it was like witnessing the equivalent of the Rugby Barbarians side turning up to play. Many familiar friendly faces ready for the challenge. The British Legion took the honours winning 4 rinks with Clock House winning 2 rinks. Overall score was Clock House 91 British Legion 109. Well done and thanks to all who supported this fantastic evening. A buffet in the Club followed the game and for those few who accepted the invitation, there were further refreshments at the British Legion Club. Believe me it was a great, late evening. |

Sunday 10th July - President's Day
The rinks were full with 43 members taking to the green on a very warm afternoon to recognise Sandra Ringshaw's final year as Club President. The afternoon commenced with a very warmly contested "Spider", which got bowled over in the excitement and was escorted off the green after a check for any broken limbs. The nearest and winner of the "Spider" was Patricia Heather. |
The members and guests then indulged in an afternoon tea of sandwiches, scones and cakes, not to forget the Prosecco, Red Wine and Shloer. Speeches and presentations followed along with a parade of bowls dress from the past to present, by those senior members who still have big enough wardrobes to store such things. Thanks to Sandra and her helpers for a well organised event.

The President versus Captain challenge consisted of 3 rinks and 3 triples in a contest of 15 ends. The result was a 3-3 draw, however on countback the Captain's side triumphed by 96 to 86 on points.
The winning team was the Captain's triple Angela Ueckermann, Derek Petrie with Debbie Walmsley as skip and the runners up were the President's rink Jean Saw/Val Nice, Margaret Tinton, Barry Kavanagh with Bob Pudney as skip. The parade of bowls dress certainly got the "Senior members" excited.
