2021 County & National
Clock House Ladies Fours win National Title @ Leamington
On Thursday 19th August, the opening day, Hayley Kenny, Michelle Squires, Serena Madgewick and skip Rebecca Smith started their campaign in the Fours competition.
A 1st round win against Lancashire 17-9 followed by a 22-11 win against Derbyshire put them through to the next days quarter finals where they had a 14-6 win over Gloucestershire.
The closest match followed with a 13-12 semi-final win over Surrey, decided on the last end which put them through to the final against Cornwall. A slow start had them trailing by 7 shots to 13 after 9 ends, then the recovery started with Cornwall denied any further shots and the Essex girls taking the remaining 6 ends to win 20-13 and take the National Fours title.
The win which was greeted by tears and cheers, fantastic was the reaction of the team, backed by a vociferous travelling band of supporters,
Saturday saw the start of the triples competition, where Hayley Kenny, Michelle Carlin and Rebecca Smith had a comfortable preliminary round win over Northants by 26-8, however the run could not be maintained and they went out by a close run 12-15 loss to Hertfordshire.
Rebecca Smith will start her Singles campaign on Wednesday.

14th August - Ladies Albert Crabb Final
The Ladies got their revenge over Wanstead Central, for the 2019 defeat, with an at times nail biting Final of the County Albert Crabb Double Rink competition held at Braintree Bowling Club on Saturday. At around the half way stage there was very little in the combined rink points total but the Clock House Ladies got the final breaks and eased in front after about 15 ends to hold an unassailable lead of 43-29 after 20 ends, when Wanstead Central conceded.
The teams on the day were Hazel Pudney, Margaret Tinton, Michelle Squires, skipped by Rebecca Smith and Michelle Carlin, Debbie Walmsley, Hayley Kenny, skipped by Serena Madgewick. Reserves were Beverley Plank and Val Hayes.
All played their part in the competition which started on the 22nd July with a 1st Round win over Elm Park by 17 shots, 2nd Round win over Kings Chase by 5 shots, 3rd Round win over Brentwood by 32 shots, 4th Round win over Romford by 22 shots, Semi-Final win over Colchester by 33 shots, culminating in the Final win by 14 shots.
This year being the resumption of most County competitions since 2019 except the Top Club Competition, gives Clock House the double, being the Top Club holders from 2019 and this years Albert Crabb winners.

Saturday/Sunday 31st July/1st Aug - Ladies take 2 County Titles
Our Ladies made a strong bid in four events at the County Championships, held at White Hall Bowls Club on Saturday flowing over to Stock & Buttsbury Bowls Club on the Sunday.
Saturday started with the Championship 4 Wood Singles, with Rebecca Smith taking the title with a 21-16 win over June Linehan from Holland-on-Sea Club. Also in the morning session Michelle Squires was contesting the 2 Wood Singles Semi-Finals but was pipped at the post by Chris Buck of Wanstead Central Club.
In the afternoon the Clock House Fours team of Rebecca Smith, Serena Madgewick, Michelle Squires and Hayley Kenny made a good start in the Championship Fours Final against a strong Wanstead Central team, however they always held the upper hand and took the title 15-12 over 15 ends.
On Sunday at Stock & Buttsbury, Smith, Kenny and Michelle Carlin took part in the Championship Triples Final against a team from The Springhouse Club but did not have the rub of the green and went down 14-17.
So a reward of two County titles and a trip to Leamington in for the National Championships, for all five Ladies, where they will contest the 4 Wood Singles, Triples and Fours.

Sunday 25th July - Ladies Qualify for County and National Finals
Our Ladies were competing in the County Semi Finals at Tiptree Jobserve Bowling Club. Pleased to report it was a very successful day with the Triples team of Rebecca Smith, Michelle Carlin and Hayley Kenny beating a team from Great Baddow 21-5 in the morning. In the afternoon the Fours Team of Rebecca Smith, Serena Madgewick, Michelle Squires and Hayley Kenny overcome the local team from Tiptree Jobserve beating them 13-7. This now means that Clock House will have a strong presence at the County Finals, next Saturday, with Rebecca in the 4 Wood Singles, Michelle Squires in the 2 Wood Singles along with both Triples and Fours teams. |
These results means they will also be competing at the National Finals at Leamington in August. |
Friday 25th June - Ladies County Triples
On Friday evening Clock House players, Rebecca Smith, Hayley Kenny and Michelle Carlin faced Jean Hough, Carole Woolward and Pat Hough from Elm Park in the ‘A’ Area County Triples Final at the neutral venue of Gidea Park Bowling Club. After 16 ends with the score 22-14 in favour of Clock House, the heavens opened and the green was under several inches of water, there was no way that the match was going to get finished, so a return on Saturday morning was the only option to play the final 2 ends, from which Elm Park needed 9 shots to win, a tall order. However 3 shots to Elm Park on the penultimate end kept the match alive, but short lived, with the Clock House trio taking 5 shots on the final end to win the match 27-17. This win now takes them through to the Essex County Semi-Final at Tiptree Jobserve Bowling Club on Sunday 25th July. |
Sunday 13th June - Ladies County Singles Rebecca Smith, having played her previous ‘A’ Area rounds on cold wet evenings, had a great Semi-Final win by 21 shots to 16 in the baking heat of Sunday morning, playing on the neutral green at Great Baddow against Elaine Score, the ‘B’ Area winner from The Springhouse Bowling Club, Stanford-le-Hope. The County Final will take place at the County President’s Club, White Hall BC, Westcliff-on-Sea on Saturday 31st July. |
