Saturday 25th September - Fancy Dress Drive Not many in Fancy Dress this year and sadly the sun did not shine but a very sociable afternoon was enjoyed by 38 people, 28 of whom actually bowled, to round off the last weekend event of this year. The drive itself was won by Kim Fergusson and Tom Newton both with totals of +11. Fancy Dress winners were Margaret Clark as a Geisha Girl in a very fetching blue Kimono and Len Everitt in a complete James Bond OO7 outfit. |
Sunday 15th August - Hetty Foster
The re-scheduled Hetty Foster mixed triples competition attracted many of the newer members from this year. The winners were Trudy Hawes, Paul Vine and Pat Flood with runners-up Val Hayes, Chris Baker and Robin Lacey. |
Sunday 12th September - Ron Errington
After a struggle to get enough members to enter this mixed triples competition, followed by an early injury during play, the organiser stepped in as substitute. However this resulted in a disqualification of the highest scoring team after a gender observation. So after an afternoon full of incident, the winners were Rob Shorey, Val Hayes and Glenys Saunders with runners-up Angela Ueckermann, Val Baker and Tony Hayes. |
Monday 30th August - Bank Holiday BBQ
The afternoon Bank Holiday Drive & BBQ, precision engineered by Eric and assisted by Tony's Bistro staff, was well attended with 35 members playing up to 18 ends or light up time, joined by around 12 non-playing members for the BBQ. The strong hat drawn side of Patricia Heather, Chris Baker, Peter Lowe and Tony Hayes were the drive winners with an +11 shot margin. Well done all! |
Saturday 28th August - Alvera Plate A difficult week coaxing members to enter resulted in a small turnout of 16 members drawn in 8 pairs contesting the Alvera Plate mixed pairs competition. Each pair played 3 rounds of 10 ends, which resulted in a very close result with no pair winning on all 3 but many winning 2 rounds. The result was decided by a countback on shot difference, then a total shot count, followed by a gender identity disqualification for 1 pair after an injury substitution. Eventually the trophy went to Val Baker and Paul Vine. Well Done. |
Sunday 8th August - Ron Plews Memorial Trophy
The Club held their Memorial Trophy, Men verses Ladies, competition on Sunday afternoon, managing to fill all 6 rinks with 36 members playing triples games. With the threat of rain, the weather was kind to us until a shower forced a tea break. Play continued with a result declared after 15 ends. The Men managed a resounding 5-1 win, with a total points tally of 123-63. Our President, Sandra Ringshaw, presented the trophy to Mens Captain, Peter Lowe. |
Ladies Captain, Hazel Pudney, had arranged her teams to introduce many of this years newer members to what was their first experience of Club competition, hoping that it would encourage them to partake in others,
that was her excuse.
that was her excuse.
Sunday 4th July - Brentwood Open Triples The Clock House trio of Doug Baxter, Mike Long and Roger Tallentire were among the 22 entries for Sunday's Brentwood open, finishing level with Elm Park at the top of the table. With both teams winning all 5 matches and 25 of the 35 ends in those matches, they had to settle for the runners-up place to Elm Park who had a superior shot difference. |
Sunday 23rd May - The Earls
The winners for 2021, achieving a better score than the UK in the Eurovision contest, are Gary Robinson/Barry Churchyard, Jenny Bullock and Bob Pudney, with 6 points, 3 wins 1 loss. Well done to all those players who cheerfully pushed through today's Autumn/Winters' adverse conditions, which involved for some people, wearing at least 10 items of clothing and clutching umbrellas. Overall, there were 24 matches played and while the scores were modest, credit should be given to Hazel Pudney's team of Kim Ferguson and Derek Churchill who were the only ones to achieve double figures in a game. Thanks must go to Hazel Churchyard and Trudie Hawes for organising and providing the day's refreshments. I've never seen so many people thankful for a hot drink and biscuit - you deserved your 'Clap for for Caterers'. |
